Taihang Engine
The Taihang engine was developed in China and it is the first large-thrust, high-performance turbofan engine, which was completed in December 2005. The Taihang engine, with high thrust ratio and fully automatic digital control system, is mainly used for the third generation of high-performance Chinese F-10 fighters.

AVIC report: China's Taihang engine widely deployed in military

China’s Taihang engines have become a significant, large-scale presence in the military, making China the third country in the world that has mass deployment of domestically-produced high-thrust engines for military use, according to the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) annual report. AVIC's social responsibility report showed that the company is capable of independently conducting research and development on the next generation of high-thrust aerial engines, along with advanced drones such as Wing Loong, which have also been deployed in the military.

British Expert Believes Chinese engines Used American Technology

British military experts believe that China in the development of WS-10 "Taihang" turbofan engines for military use in the process of obtaining business from the United States CFM56 turbofan engine technology. Russian media said the Chinese WS-10 "Taihang" engine development program comparable to the United States that year's "Apollo" moon program, are extremely important strategic significance. Experts believe that a weakness of domestic manufacturing of advanced jet engines can not become a superpower country.

Home-made engines to play major role in China’s future fighters

The "Taihang" engine is China's first high-performance, high-thrust and afterburning turbofan engine with independent intellectual property right (IPR), which fills the blank of domestically-produced advanced turbofan engine. China has made substantial progress in domestically-produced engines and fighters, but the fact is that its overall airplane production capacity cannot meet the demand for military equipment upgrade. For instance, the engines for J-10 are mostly imported from Russia. "The military has a large demand, but we are unable to produce enough products," said Wu Guohui, adding that "in the future, we'll mainly use locally-produced equipment and import some as supplement, which will not only improve our overall combat capability, but also boost the development of Chinese aviation industry. China will import fewer and fewer fighter engines. It will be inevitable."
