Brocade
Brocade is a woven material made of colored longitudes and latitudes through a jacquard weave. Weaving techniques are used to form patterns. Brocade emerged amongst silk fabric techniques as early as the Zhou Dynasty. At this time, it featured multi-colored and magnificent decorative design, but this changed over time. In the Han Dynasty, the "Weaving Room" and "Brocade Department" were established specifically to weave brocade for the royal court.

China Mobile Selects Brocade NFV Software Appliance to Support Internet Plus Mission

BEIJING, CHINA--(Marketwired - Jan 18, 2017) - Brocade ( NASDAQ : BRCD ) today announced that China Mobile Ltd (0941.HK) ( NYSE : CHL ), the world's largest mobile communications service provider, has selected an advanced network functions virtualization (NFV) solution from Brocade to support its most strategic corporate development initiative. Deployment of the Brocade® Virtual Traffic Manager (vTM) within key China Mobile data centers will help the company deliver highly available and agile cloud services, while keeping operating costs under control. As one of the country's major service providers, China Mobile is playing a leading role in the Chinese Government's Internet Plus initiative to increase competitiveness and support the development of new business models within conventional industries through information technologies, such as fixed and mobile Internet connectivity, cloud computing, Big Data, and the Internet of Things. In addition to providing IP connectivity services, China Mobile has also taken on the role of a large-scale cloud service provider capable of meeting the needs of major enterprise and government customers. Brocade vTM will initially be deployed at China Mobile's Southern Base and Northern Base data centers in conjunction with Nokia which, through its acquisition of Alcatel-Lucent, became China Mobile's strategic supplier of software-defined networking (SDN) and NFV infrastructure. Brocade vTM software will run within the Nuage Networks Virtualized Services Platform, a commercially supported version of the standard-based OpenStack SDN orchestration environment. "The promise of network functions virtualization is the ability to scale services on demand. When it comes to service providers, they don't come much bigger than China Mobile in terms of potential scale," said Henry Zhu, country manager of Brocade China. "We're naturally delighted that Brocade's advanced NFV appliance technology has been selected by China Mobile. This is a groundbreaking project within China's service provider landscape and we are fully committed to ensuring it results in complete success." As an NFV software appliance, Brocade vTM runs on the same industry-standard hardware and virtualization environment employed throughout China Mobile's cloud data centers. During testing, the project team was able to spin up a Brocade vTM instance of 200 Mbps on a single virtual machine host. With the orchestration upgrade for China Mobile's Cloud data center, Brocade vTM can achieve elastic capacity from 1 to 1000 Mbps on a single virtual machine host. The testing also revealed that getting the equivalent load balancing performance on a hardware-based application delivery controller would be 50 percent more expensive than the Brocade vTM solution. About Brocade Brocade ( NASDAQ : BRCD ) networking solutions help the world's leading organizations turn their networks into platforms for business innovation. With solutions spanning public and private data centers to the network edge, Brocade is leading the industry in its transition to the New IP network infrastructures required for today's era of digital business. China Mobile taps Brocade software for SDN cloud rollout

China Mobile will deploy NFV software from Brocade at several of its key data centers as part of its first SDN-based commercial public cloud rollout. The operator is deploying virtual traffic management technology from the networking vendor, initially at its Southern Base and Northern Base data centers. The deployment will be conducted in conjunction with China Mobile's strategic SDN and NFV supplier Nokia. Brocade's software will run within the Nuage Networks virtual service platform, which is being implemented by Nokia as part of a project announced last week. China Mobile is playing a major role in the Chinese government's Internet Plus initiative to support the development of new business models enabled by ICT, such as fixed and mobile internet connectivity, cloud, big data and the IoT. As part of this effort, China Mobile has taken on the role of a large-scale cloud service provider for major enterprise and government customers, and is deploying SDN-based cloud services to support these operations. “The promise of network functions virtualization is the ability to scale services on demand. When it comes to service providers, they don’t come much bigger than China Mobile in terms of potential scale,” Brocade China country manager Henry Zhu said. “We’re naturally delighted that Brocade’s advanced NFV appliance technology has been selected by China Mobile. This is a groundbreaking project within China’s service provider landscape and we are fully committed to ensuring it results in complete success.”

Brocade's legacy of high fashion nearly faded away in old China

It's silk fit for royalty — literally. China's "crown of brocades" was used to fashion the wedding dresses of Kate Middleton and Princess Diana. Wujiang Dingsheng Silk Co also designed the attire for world leaders at last year's APEC meeting in Beijing. It claims it beat out 400 competitors for the work. Song brocade was almost forgotten during the upheavals of China's last two dynasties. It's said there were just 12 looms weaving it when New China was founded. Listed as a national-level intangible cultural heritage in 2009, song brocade from Suzhou is characterized by bright colors, exquisite patterns and soft textures. The culture park's centerpiece is a two-story loom with an elderly master working below and her two apprentices steering 8,000 threads into place 10 meters above her.
