Hebei Museum
Hebei Museum is a provincial comprehensive museum, a national patriotism education demonstration base and a national first-class museum. By 2014, it reported a total construction area of 53,128 square meters, and an exhibition area of over 22,000 square meters, with a collection of 150,000 pieces of cultural relics, including 334 first-class objects, 1,910 second-class objects, and 16,313 third-class objects, among which the most distinctive are the cultural relics unearthed in the Han tombs in Mancheng, porcelain of four major kilns in ancient Hebei, blue and white porcelain in the Yuan Dynasty, stone-carved Buddhist statues, local scripts and paintings of celebrities in the Ming and Qing Dynasties and the cultural relics during the War against Japanese Aggression. In addition, as one of the major units for the collection of the local chronicles in Hebei Province, it collects over 50,000 books, most of which are the good editions in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. On June 9, 2014, it was promoted as Hebei Grand Museum.

Hebei Provincial Museum

Hebei Provincial Museum is located at South Zhongshan Street of Shijiazhuang, the provincial capital. It was first built in Baoding in April 1953; after two relocations in the 1980s it finally settled down at the present site in March 1987 and reopened on October 1 of the year. The museum is made up of two parts -- the exhibition area and the relics storage building. The exhibition building covers an area of 20,028 square meters, with 11,216 square meters for exhibition halls. The storage building, one kilometer from the exhibition area, has a construction area of 5,278 square meters. As the only comprehensive museum of province-level in Hebei, its function mainly includes collection, exhibition, publicity and research into cultural relics. The museum has a collection of 150,000 art works and specimens, including 565 first-grade cultural relics. Among the collections are some rare treasures such as those unearthed from Mancheng Lingshan Tombs of the Han Dynasty (206BC-220AD) including jade burial suits sewn with gold thread, Changxin palace lantern, Boshan incense burner with gold inlay and the white-glazed porcelain wares with black designs produced by Cizhou Kiln of the Song Dynasty (960-1279) comprising pillow with pattern showing child playing ball, pillow decorated with a fishing boy and vase with peony pattern, and blue-and-white jar with fretwork floral design in red and blue glaze. Besides, it is worth mentioning that there are also some special collections such as the calligraphy and paintings by Hebei's celebrities and revolutionary relics of Anti-Japanese Aggression War. At present, three basic displays and two special-topic exhibitions of the museum are open to the public on a daily basis. The three basic displays are: Hebei's Ancient History, showing the historic sketch of Hebei from the Paleolithic Age to the year 1840; Hebei's Revolutionary History, with 2,160 pieces of relics, displaying Hebei people's struggles in the period from the Opium War in 1840 to the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949; Restored Mancheng Tomb of the Han Dynasty (206BC-220AD), displaying the precious tomb articles. The two special-topic exhibitions are: Heibei Folklore and the History of Biological Evolvement. Besides the regular exhibitions, the museum has held various exhibitions in cities and provinces such as Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Jiangsu, Hunan, Guangdong, Sichuan and so on. The museum has also published several books such as Scenic Spots of Chengde. The expansion project of Hebei Provincial Museum is ongoing. The new museum will open at the end of 2010.

Hebei Provincial Museum is one of the best-known museums in China. It was founded in Baoding city in 1953, then moved to its present location in Shijiazhuang in 1960 and gained its present name in 1963. After two relocations in the 1980s, since 1999, a number of new buildings have been added in the museum. Chinese and International Students Visited Hebei Museum

A few days ago, led by three instructors Rong Gaoyue, Guo Lele and Wang Weijiao, students from Foreign Language Department and International Education College went to Hebei Provincial Museum to visit and learn. Under the guidance of Museum' s docent, all students visited the exhibition hall of unearthed cultural relics of the Han Dynasty together. Then Chinese students and international students visited the exhibition hall of Hebei Porcelain and the exhibition hall of relics of Zhongsha State in groups. During the visit, international students showed their keen interest in the extensive and profound Chinese culture, and sometimes exchanged their ideas with Chinese students. What��s more, some international students took notes while listening. The international student Kundai from Zimbabwe said that these exhibitions were exquisite and showed profound Chinese culture with a long history. He would like to be the link between the cultures of the two nations and bring the fascinations of Chinese culture to his own country. This activity, held by Foreign Language Department and International Education College, was meant to help foreign students deeply understand the ancient civilization and glorious culture of China and Hebei. It also allowed students of Foreign Language Department to practice English in real contexts and promote mutual learning and understanding between foreign students and Chinese students. This activity gained strong support from the Hebei Museum. The Museum officials said, "This activity made students from countries around the world know the Chinese culture, especially the Yan Zhao culture, which is meaningful and worthy of promotion. And students and teachers from Shijiazhuang Tiedao University were welcomed to the Hebei Museum" .
