SJTU Achieved 4 Awards at the 2016 National Science and Technology Award
On January 9th, the 2016 National Science and Technology Award Conference was held in the Great Hall of the People. Party and state leaders Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, Liu Yunshan and Zhang Gaoli attended the conference and presented prizes to the winners. On behalf of the CPC Central Committee and State Council, Li Keqiang delivered a speech at the conference. The 2016 National Science and Technology Award was given to 279 projects, seven scientific experts and one international organization. Among them, there are 2 State Supreme Science and Technology Award winners, 42 National Natural Science Award winners, 66 National Technology Invention Award winners, 171 National Science and Technology Progress Award winners, five foreign experts and an international organization were given the People's Republic of China International Science and Technology Cooperation prize.
State Council announces 2016 national sci-tech awards
The State Council issued a document on the 2016 national science and technology award winners. According to the decision, awards will be given to scientific and technological researchers and organizations that made outstanding contributions to the improvement of science and technology, the development of economy and society, and the modern construction of national defense. Zhao Zhongxian of the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and researcher Tu Youyou are honored with China’s highest science and technology reward. The Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment project is honored with the National Natural Science Awards.
Awards in Science and Technology
As early as 1955 the Chinese government promulgated Interim Regulations of the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Awards for Science, establishing awards for important scientific and technological achievements. In 1984, the government set up the Awards for Scientific and Technological Progress. Five national awards were established in May 1999, covering science and technology, natural sciences, technical invention, scientific and technological progress, international cooperation in science and technology. These are presented by the President of China at the annual National Science and Technology Awards Ceremony.
