Moiseev retains pentathlon title
Russia's Andrey Moiseev retained his Olympic men's modern pentathlon title in the pouring rain at the Olympic Sports Center Stadium. Moiseev was on top going into the gruelling 3000m after competing in the 10m air pistol, fencing, 200m freestyle swim and showjumping.Lithuania's Edvinas Krungolcas took the silver and his compatriot Andrejus Zadneprovskis clinched the bronze.Britons Sam Weale and Nick Woodbridge finished 10th and 25th respectively."I'll look back on this as a day with so many ups and downs, but obviously I loved it out there and I have to be happy with a top-10 finish at my first Olympic Games," said Weale. "But when you're on the start line, you just want to get a medal."Woodbridge added: "This was one of the best days of my life, but also one of the hardest. It was my worst result of the season, which is really frustrating.” There was heartache for China's Qian Zhenhua who held second spot before finishing fourth overall after fading in the 3000m.Czech athlete David Svoboda led the competition after winning the pistol shooting with a score of 191 out of a maximum 200 - an Olympic record. After the epee fencing, both Moiseev and Qian occupied the overall top two spots, winning 26 of their 35 bouts.Egypt's Amro el Geziry then set another Olympic modern pentathlon record in the 200m swimming with a time of one minute 55.86 seconds, breaking Moiseev's mark in Athens four years ago of 1:58:88.That came before the farcical showjumping that saw five of the competitors fail to finish the rain-drenched course, while Svoboda, who was third overall, slipped down to 31st after a disastrous ride.Moiseev is the first man since Sweden's Lars Hall, in 1952 and 1956, to win back-to-back Olympic modern pentathlons.

The expanded Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium covers 47,410 sq m and consists of a 28,000 sq m gymnasium, 15,000 sq m training gym, and 4,410 sq m extension. the venue can seat 6,300 spectators.During the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, the venue was hold the handball preliminaries and quarterfinals and served as the training venue for goalball, wheelchair basketball, fencing and rugby. Following the Games, It serve as the training venue for the Chinese teams and as an activity center for citizens.
